LARGO, Fla. – A pedestrian riding a mobility scooter was seriously injured in a collision with a vehicle in Largo on Saturday night.
The crash occurred around 8:03 PM at the intersection of North Missouri Avenue and 4th Avenue NW. According to the Largo Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit, a 2011 Buick Regal was traveling southbound on Missouri Avenue with a green light when it struck a pedestrian on a mobility scooter who was crossing the roadway outside of the designated crosswalk.
The impact of the collision caused life-threatening injuries to the scooter rider, who was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Buick was uninjured and remained at the scene.
The southbound lanes of Missouri Avenue were closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene but are expected to reopen shortly.
The Largo Police Department is investigating the crash to determine the circumstances that led to the collision. The driver of the Buick showed no signs of impairment.
