Pinellas Park, FL – A pedestrian was killed early Tuesday morning in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision in Pinellas Park. The incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. in the parking lot of 12210 62nd Street North.
According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, a white box truck was reversing toward a loading bay when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was standing in a parking stall. The truck driver was identified as a 25-year-old Tampa resident, Eligabriel Caez Negron.
Investigators determined that Negron operated the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. He was arrested at the scene and charged with Driving on a Suspended License Resulting in Death.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local trauma center, where he later died.
The identity of the deceased has not been released pending next-of-kin notification.
According to arrest documentation, Elgabriel Caez Negron is a driver for VGM Transport LLC and arrived at the Home Depot Warehouse around 5:50 a.m. to pick up his delivery. The victim was parked in the adjacent bay. The area was described as highly trafficked by pedestrians and vehicles and lit by exterior building lighting. The vehicle was equipped with ample, necessary, and required mirrors. According to court documents, “the driver failed to recognize the pedestrian, struck the victim, and continued backing into the bay.” He also reportedly admitted his license was suspended while he was physically controlling the vehicle.
On March 30, 2025, in Hillsborough County, Eligabriel Caez Negron was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and DUI with property damage. That case is ongoing, and a hearing is scheduled for April 23, 2025.
