A 17-year-old has been arrested for leaving the scene of a crash that left a woman with serious injuries.
On February 18, 2025, at 5:34 p.m., deputies responded to the intersection of CR 579 and Clay Pit Road, where they found a female victim on the ground with facial injuries and a possible broken leg. She was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment.
Deputies determined that the suspect was driving a black Honda. A search of the area led them to a vehicle matching the description pulling into a neighborhood, where they conducted a traffic stop.
The driver, identified as Ahmad Joseph McKinnon, 17, admitted to being behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
“Thanks to the hard work of our deputies, this suspect was quickly identified and taken into custody. Anyone who thinks they can flee the scene of a crash and escape responsibility should think again,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We will continue to pursue justice for victims and make it clear that reckless actions like this will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County.”
McKinnon was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Serious Bodily Injury. The investigation remains ongoing.
