TAMPA, Fla. – A 35-year-old man was killed early this morning after being struck by a truck on South Howard Avenue.
The incident occurred around 2:46 a.m. near the intersection of Howard Avenue and Horatio Street. According to Tampa Police, the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet HD2500 truck, a 27-year-old male, was exiting a shopping plaza when he failed to stop completely before entering the roadway. The truck struck the pedestrian, who was standing near the edge of the road.
The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The driver of the truck remained at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and any potential charges will be determined as the investigation progresses.
Previous report: A fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian has closed both northbound and southbound lanes of South Howard Avenue at the intersection of West Horatio Street.
The Tampa Police Department is currently on scene investigating the incident. Drivers are strongly advised to find alternate routes and avoid the area.
