I have found in my experience handling many, many cases against Publix, whether it be slipping falls, employee negligence issues with Publix, delivery trucks, you name it. But I found that Publix is one of the few businesses around the state of Florida that actually tries to compensate and take care of it shoppers if they are injured on the premises of Publix. So that’s a rare thing. A, you’ll find many other businesses, they just don’t care. They view, everyone is trying to get a pay day and they treat them that, uh, that way. So Publix is in my opinion, a cut above. But if you’ve been involved in an accident, the first thing you need to do is to report it to the store manager at Publix. They need to investigate it. They need to document it. It needs to go into their system so that once we subsequently make a claim that, uh, that the claim exists and they’re able to know something about it.
Now, the claims center for Publix is out of Lakeland, Florida. And I have found in working with those adjusters that they are generally speaking very reasonable. Like I said earlier, they tried to compensate the victims if in fact there’s negligence on behalf of Publix. So that’s a good thing. However, also, I have seen in my experience in dealing with Publix claims, if you do not accept what they view or what you meant when your lawyer may view as a reasonable settlement and you force the matter into litigation by filing a lawsuit, they become much more aggressive and much more difficult. So again, my advice is try to get the matter resolved at the [inaudible] stage with the claim center in Lakeland and their adjusters.
